GM to shut down Detroit-Hamtramck plant for major overhaul
The last of the Impalas manufactured from GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant to be rolled out this week and the plant is to be closed for major overhaul. GM plans to transfrom the plant to an all modern electric and self-driving vehicle manufacturing facility. The new facility will employ 2200 people when the production commences. GM intends to start the production of Hummer based electric SUV. The current employee pool of 800 shall have the option to be transferred to other plants of GM, as February 28 2020 is the last day of work. This move shows GM’s commitment to the US Auto Industry and also the standardization of the EV portfolio.
